Gender vs. Sex

Ok. So here is my new and current annoyance: Why don't people understand the that gender and sex are completely different? Sex is the biological aspects of femaleness and maleness. Gender is the appearance, how you show yourself; the cultural, social, and psychological aspects of femaleness and maleness. There was a recent article with the title gender gap in China explaining how female fetuses are often aborted in hopes for a son. 119 male to 100 females- that is the current statistic. Well being a sociology major focusing on gender especially study of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender/sex folk, it is shocking that these educated researchers sound uneducated to the topic considering the headline title. babies are not born knowing their gender nor their sex. Parents and others know the babies sex through the obvious. It is argued that gender is biological and environmental to that which i agree. I personally I never wanted to be male, or wear boy clothes or anything of the sort. I know girls raised as girls but feel more comfortable as boys. One has always felt male and the other not until she was a teen. Can you imagine the response of society they get?!
It follows deviation: Social norms, social violation of those norms, and social response.
For instance the heterosexual matrix: sex ->gender->sexual desire/orientation. What happens when your gender falls different then your sex?

Interesting stuff.
